Fantasy Impact Of The Latest NBA Trade

The Suns dealt Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, and Earl Clark to the Magic in exchange for Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, and Mickael Pietrus, along with a first-round pick in a trade that involves two former NBA Slam Dunk champions.

From a fantasy perspective the big winners are Vince Carter and Marcin Gortat. Vince Carter from the sense that he’ll now be playing alongside Steve Nash, who has historically made just about every teammate better. Gortat gets that same bump, but also should get more playing time, something he lacked playing behind Dwight Howard.

The biggest loser in the deal has to be Jason Richardson. He was the primary scoring option in Phoenix, and will now have to go to an offense that runs through Dwight Howard. Plus, if the rumored deal of Rashard Lewis for Gilbert Arenas goes through, J-Rich will have even fewer attempts.

Hedo Turkoglu returns to Orlando where he played exceptionally well before leaving for Toronto. Perhaps the return will restore his fantasy value, but he is a wildcard in this deal.

Mickael Pietrus will have the occasional solid game, like all Phoenix wing players tend to, but he won’t be a consistent option. Earl Clark likely won’t see an increase in value either.
